About the firm

Named for the goddess of wisdom and strategic war

Minerva Law was established in 2013 and has specialised in franchising ever since. The lawyers here run businesses of their own, so the advice starts with the commercial position and the law follows it.

The name

Minerva, and what we take from her

Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, strategy and skilled craft, and she is a goddess of war who is invoked for strategy rather than for violence. That distinction is the whole point of the name.

Wisdom

Knowing the law is the entry fee. Knowing which parts of it matter to this business, in this transaction, on this timeline, is the work.

Courage

Telling a client the deal is bad, the claim is weak or the fight is not worth having. Advice that only ever agrees with you is not advice.

Battle ready

Prepared before it is needed. Documents drafted for the day they are argued over, and disputes prepared before the first letter goes out.

Pragmatic

Minerva is invoked for strategy, not for the fight itself. Most commercial problems are better solved than won.

The firm

How Minerva Law is put together

A specialist franchise practice, with the commercial, property and disputes capability that franchise work keeps calling for.

01

Specialised

Franchising first

Franchising is the centre of this practice. That is why the numbers on this site are franchise numbers, and why other lawyers engage the firm on franchise questions.

02

Commercially minded

Lawyers who run businesses

Our lawyers own and operate businesses of their own. They have negotiated their own leases, bought and sold companies and carried the risk of their own contracts, and it shows in the advice: the commercial consequence is worked out first and the drafting serves it. Where a matter reaches into litigation, property or aviation, a specialist in that area leads it.

03

Clear before it starts

Scope and fee in writing

Fixed fees where the scope can be fixed: reviews, conveyancing, document suites. Where the scope genuinely cannot be fixed, you get an estimate and a warning before it moves, not an invoice after it has.

04

Teaching what we know

Klarion

The education arm of the firm. Franchise seminars, CPD for professional advisers and courses across the franchise lifecycle. Specialist knowledge is worth more when other people can use it.

Our philosophy

We work in franchising because it’s an area of law where clarity really matters. Franchise decisions are high-stakes and long-term, yet too often clients receive generic advice that doesn’t reflect the commercial reality of franchising.
