The name
Minerva, and what we take from her
Minerva is the Roman goddess of wisdom, strategy and skilled craft, and she is a goddess of war who is invoked for strategy rather than for violence. That distinction is the whole point of the name.
Wisdom
Knowing the law is the entry fee. Knowing which parts of it matter to this business, in this transaction, on this timeline, is the work.
Courage
Telling a client the deal is bad, the claim is weak or the fight is not worth having. Advice that only ever agrees with you is not advice.
Battle ready
Prepared before it is needed. Documents drafted for the day they are argued over, and disputes prepared before the first letter goes out.
Pragmatic
Minerva is invoked for strategy, not for the fight itself. Most commercial problems are better solved than won.
The firm
How Minerva Law is put together
A small specialist practice with a franchising centre of gravity and a wider commercial capability behind it.
01
Specialised
Franchising first
Franchising is the centre of this practice rather than a line item in a general commercial book. That is why the numbers on this site are franchise numbers, and why the firm is engaged by other lawyers on franchise questions.
02
Small by design
A team, not a pyramid
Work is allocated across a specialist team by complexity, so routine tasks never carry principal rates. Subcontracted specialists act in areas the firm does not lead in, which is how clients who ask about litigation, property or aviation are helped rather than turned away.
03
Priced before it starts
Scope and fee in writing
Fixed fees where the scope can be fixed: reviews, conveyancing, document suites. Where the scope genuinely cannot be fixed, you get an estimate and a warning before it moves, not an invoice after it has.
04
Teaching what we know
Klarion
The education arm of the firm. Franchise seminars, CPD for professional advisers and courses across the franchise lifecycle. Specialist knowledge is worth more when other people can use it.
Our philosophy
We work in franchising because it’s an area of law where clarity really matters. Franchise decisions are high-stakes and long-term, yet too often clients receive generic advice that doesn’t reflect the commercial reality of franchising.
